Art Supply for Watercolors for Beginners Mind
The watercolor palette I am using in class is going to vary until we reach the color lesson. In the meantime here’s the art supplies I will be using in class. You do not need the exact brands, but you do need to have the basic colours, in the best quality you can afford.
See my other post where I cover in deep depth about the different qualities of watercolor, paper and brushes here
LIST of Supplies for the class:
Watercolor paints
If you want to try high quality, artist grade watercolour but you don’t feel comfortable investing in tubes yet, and the artist-grade pan palette you want, is out of your budget. I got your back.
Here are my basic watercolour sampler. Yes, I squeeze them out of my own various brands of watercolor tubes (they’re mostly by Daniel Smith) into cards or if you want a little bit more paint, the Daiso palette sampler is also available. Both lets you try the rolls Royce of watercolor before buying any paints. One of the colours is my favourite granulated paint called Shadow Violet.
International shipping is $3, and local shipping in Singapore is currently Free!
I am not sponsored for any of the brands, I just want you to start with your best foot forward. Thats how much I love these paints.
2. Black waterproof ink liner, any brand will do, size 0.3, 0.4 or 0.5 will all work fine.
3. Round medium watercolor brushes. Medium means its usually a size 6 to 8 for small hands, 8-12 for bigger hands. Any brand is fine. but again you can consult my in depth article about brushes as linked above. During the class I may show you other brushes I use for specific purposes, like the squirrel mop, but there’s no need to get this brush just yet.
4. Two or more bowls of water. Tissue paper or paper towels.
5. Optional pencil, a 2B is what I usually use, or the blackwing pencil.
6. Watercolour paper, pads, sketchbook. Your choice really. Size is also your choice. I usually use A5 or A4, as long as the paper is for watercolor painting and can take lots of water on it (this means you need at least 200 gsm paper, or heavier.) The classic weight is 300 GSM or 140 Lbs) Sometimes Mix media paper that weighs 200-300 GSM will work fine too.
My online class is kept small, limited to 15 students because that’s the most I could assist and work with in one go without it overwhelming me and watering down your experience as students.
