Sherlee Choliluddin's Trees, Can I Paint You? , 2024
I am glad to finally gained the courage to paint the majestic heritage trees in the Singapore Botanic Garden. Prior to my ‘awakening’, I felt mentally blocked and overwhelmed when it comes to painting trees. I seem not able to differentiate the shadows and the lights of the tree’s foliage, and could not understand how to mix the right colours to capture the essence of the foliage. I have tried many methods, tried to copy the process from other artists, but eventually I gave up on being able to paint trees. That is until this year August, after watching a demo and going through a private lesson, did everything seem to click in my head; all that practices and learning I did over the years came together and I felt liberated to paint trees in the way which captures the energy of the location, and the trees.
